Is January a good time to visit Ladakh?
Deep winter. Rivers freeze, high passes close for days at a time and most hotels outside Leh shut. This is the start of the snow leopard season in Hemis National Park and Ulley, with cats moving lower after wild sheep. Spituk Gustor falls this month in some years, and Losar may run into early January. Flights from Delhi operate, and Leh is quiet and bright.
