Yeti Mountain Home
Most lodges on the Everest trail are simple teahouses with shared bathrooms and thin walls. Yeti Mountain Home is different: a string of purpose-built lodges spaced a day's walk apart, so that a walker can move from Lukla up the Dudh Koshi valley to Namche and beyond while sleeping in a proper room each night. Rooms have attached bathrooms with hot water, the dining rooms are warm and the kitchens cook a mix of Nepali and international food.
We use the lodges for short walks to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m and for longer lodge-to-lodge journeys that include Khumjung, Thame and the monastery at Tengboche. The lodge at Kongde, high above the valley and often reached by helicopter, offers some of the closest mountain views in the Khumbu. Sleeping altitudes are planned carefully, with a rest day at Namche, and porters carry your bags between lodges.
Why we book it
- The most comfortable lodge chain on the Everest trail
- Attached bathrooms and warm dining rooms at altitude
- Lodges spaced for gentle daily stages
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Where are the Yeti Mountain Home lodges?
The lodges run along the main Everest trail at Lukla, Phakding, Monjo and Namche Bazaar, with further lodges at Thame and at Kongde high above the valley. They are spaced roughly a day's walk apart, so a lodge-to-lodge itinerary can stay with the chain all the way to Namche and beyond. Opening months vary, so check current status before you travel.
Do Yeti Mountain Home lodges have private bathrooms?
Yes. Rooms have attached bathrooms with hot water, which is the main reason we use the chain over standard teahouses. Remember that at altitude, water pressure and temperature can vary, and nights are cold, so pack warm sleepwear. Dining rooms are heated, and the lodges are the most comfortable option on the trail to Namche and Thame.
Can non-trekkers stay at Yeti Mountain Home?
Yes, with some walking. The lodges at Lukla, Phakding and Monjo are reached on foot along a well-made trail, and the walk to Namche climbs about 600 m in a day. For those who cannot walk far, we can use helicopter transfers where permitted, for example to Kongde or Namche, but rapid ascent increases altitude risk, so we plan these carefully.
