Suryagarh

Suryagarh opened in 2010 as a new building in the form of a desert fortress, with courtyards, a large gateway and rooms arranged around inner gardens. The stone, carving and scale echo the Jaisalmer fort, and the setting outside the city means quiet nights and clear skies. It is a hotel designed for the desert rather than one adapted to it.
The hotel runs a full programme: dune dinners, walks through nearby villages and the abandoned settlement of Kuldhara, and drives into the Thar. We use it as the main base for two or three nights in Jaisalmer, sometimes with a night at a desert camp. The fort and havelis are a 20-minute drive away, which suits early starts before the lanes fill.
Why we book it
- The strongest luxury base in Jaisalmer
- Desert programmes run from the hotel
- Quiet setting with clear night skies
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
How far is Suryagarh from Jaisalmer Fort
About 15 km, around 20 minutes by car. The hotel sits on the road west towards Sam and the Kuldhara area, so it is well placed for both the fort and the desert. We drive guests in early for the fort and havelis, then return for a long lunch in the heat of the day.
Suryagarh or a desert camp
Suryagarh gives you a full hotel with proper rooms, a spa and desert excursions arranged from the door. A tented camp gives you the dunes outside your tent and starlit nights away from roads. For three nights, we often book two at Suryagarh and one at a camp, if a suitable camp is open for your dates.
Is Suryagarh good for families
Yes. The space, the gardens and the desert activities suit children, and the hotel is close enough to the fort for a half-day visit. Dune drives and camel rides are popular with families. Tell us ages when we book so we can choose the right room configuration.
