The Oberoi Rajvilas

Rajvilas sits on around 32 acres of gardens about 25 minutes from the old city, on the Goner road. Rooms are arranged around fountain courtyards, and the tents and villas give real privacy, several with their own pools. An 18th-century Shiva temple stands in the grounds and is still used for a small evening ritual. The spa occupies a restored haveli.
We suggest Rajvilas to couples and families who want calm after full days in the bazaars and forts, and to anyone who prefers a resort to a palace. The trade-off is distance: you drive in for every sight, though our drivers plan around the traffic. Book a premier tent or a villa for a longer stay; the entry rooms are comfortable but the tents are the reason to come.
Why we book it
- Private villas and tents with their own pools
- Quiet setting after long sightseeing days
- Restored haveli spa and an old temple in the grounds
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Rambagh Palace or The Oberoi Rajvilas
Choose Rambagh if you want to sleep inside history, close to the old city, with grand public rooms. Choose Rajvilas if privacy, a pool outside your door and quiet evenings matter more, and you do not mind a 25–30 minute drive into the centre. Many of our guests split three nights between the two.
How far is The Oberoi Rajvilas from the old city
About 8 km east of the walled city, normally 25–35 minutes by car. Amber Fort is about an hour away in morning traffic, so we leave at 7.30 for an early entry. The airport is around 30 minutes south. The location is the main compromise of an otherwise very private, very calm resort.
Is The Oberoi Rajvilas good for families
Yes. The gardens give children space to move, and the villas and tents with private pools let families spread out. Interconnecting options and extra beds depend on the room type, so tell us ages when we book. The hotel can arrange gentle activities on site, which helps after a long morning at the forts.
