Rambagh Palace

Rambagh began in 1835 as a garden house for a royal queen's handmaiden, became a hunting lodge, and was rebuilt as the main residence of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II in the 1920s. It turned into a hotel in 1957, one of the first palaces in India to do so. The scale is the point: long verandas, marble corridors, lawns where peacocks walk at dusk and a sense of space that is rare so close to a city centre.
We book the historical suites and Palace rooms for guests who want the full effect, and the Premium rooms for shorter stays. Dinner at Suvarna Mahal, the former banquet hall, is formal and worth one evening; the Polo Bar is the place for a drink before it. Mornings are best spent in the gardens before the drive to Amber, which takes around 40 minutes.
Why we book it
- A real royal residence with its history intact
- Gardens large enough to feel removed from Jaipur traffic
- Close to the old city, Amber and the airport
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is Rambagh Palace worth the price
For a first visit to Jaipur, yes. You are sleeping in a working royal palace with gardens on a scale no new hotel can copy, 15 minutes from the old city. Book a historical or Palace room rather than the entry category so you feel the architecture. If budget matters more than history, The Oberoi Rajvilas or a smaller haveli hotel give better value per night.
How far is Rambagh Palace from Amber Fort and the airport
Amber Fort is about 13 km north, roughly 40 minutes by car depending on traffic through the old city. Jaipur International Airport is around 10 km south, about 25 minutes. The pink city bazaars and City Palace are 15–20 minutes away, which makes Rambagh one of the most practical bases in Jaipur as well as one of the grandest.
Can non-guests visit Rambagh Palace
Non-residents have historically been able to book a table at the restaurants or the Polo Bar, and some visitors pay for a palace walk. Policies change by season and occupancy, so check current status before you travel. We reserve a table in advance for guests staying elsewhere who want to see the palace over dinner.
