Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is September a good time to visit Ladakh?
Our favourite month. Skies are at their clearest, crowds thin after mid-month and the barley harvest is under way. Poplars begin to turn gold late in the month. Nights become cold at the lakes. The Ladakh Festival brings processions and polo to Leh. Excellent for stargazing at Hanle and photography everywhere. Nights at the high lakes fall below freezing, so pack warm layers for camps.
What is the weather like in Ladakh in September?
Leh 6 to 21 °C, dry, very clear. Conditions differ by altitude and coast, so check the forecast for each stop a week before you travel.
Where should we go in Ladakh in September?
We suggest Leh, Hanle, Pangong Tso, Sham Valley. Plan a night at Hanle around the new moon for the clearest skies.
