Eight unhurried nights on Goa's quietest coast. Four at The Leela Goa between the Sal river and the sea at Mobor, then four at The LaLiT on Rajbag beach near Palolem. One gentle outing a day: river boats, Cabo de Rama, Chandor, Butterfly Beach, Cotigao forest and the turtle beach at Galgibaga.
South Goa from Mobor to the Karnataka border is the part of the coast that has changed least. The Salcete beach ends at the Sal river; below it, Canacona's bays are framed by forested headlands, and beaches such as Agonda and Galgibaga are protected for nesting turtles. This journey is for travellers who want long beach days with one good thing to do each day, never two.
You stay at the two resorts we trust most at either end of this coast: The Leela Goa at Mobor, with lagoons and its own golf course, and The LaLiT on Rajbag beach, the only large luxury resort in Canacona. Outings start early or late to avoid the heat, and your driver is always on hand.

The journey
Day01
Arrive, to The Leela Goa at Mobor
Overnight: The Leela Goa, Mobor≈ 40 km · 1 hMeals: Dinner
Your driver meets you at Dabolim and drives south along the Salcete coast to Mobor, where The Leela Goa sits at the end of the long beach with the Sal river behind it. Lagoons wind through the gardens and the beach in front is the quietest on this coast. The afternoon is yours to settle in, swim and walk the sand to the river mouth at sunset.
Day02
A slow day and the Sal at sunset
Overnight: The Leela Goa, Mobor≈ 5 km · 10 minMeals: Breakfast
Nothing is planned until late afternoon. Walk the beach at dawn, play nine holes on the resort's golf course or spend the morning at the spa. At about 4.30 pm, a private boat leaves the Mobor jetty and runs upstream among the mangroves, where kingfishers and herons hunt, then turns to the river mouth for the sunset over the Arabian Sea. Drinks are served on board.
Day03
Chandor's great house
Overnight: The Leela Goa, Mobor≈ 45 km round trip · 1 h 20 minMeals: Breakfast, Lunch
A morning inland to Chandor, 40 minutes away. Braganza House, two family wings behind one long façade on the village square, is shown by family members or caretakers: the ballroom, the library and the chapel. Continue to Quepem for a long Goan-Portuguese lunch at Palácio do Deão, a restored 18th-century house on the Kushavati river, by reservation. Return to the resort by mid-afternoon.
Day04
Dolphins and a free afternoon
Overnight: The Leela Goa, Mobor≈ 5 km · 10 minMeals: Breakfast
An early boat from Mobor goes out to the river mouth, where humpback dolphins are often seen on calm mornings. Back by 10 am, the rest of the day is free: the pool, the beach or a treatment at the spa. In the evening, dine at a Goan restaurant in Cavelossim or Varca, where the fish curry rice is the dish to order.
Day05
Cabo de Rama and on to Rajbag
Overnight: The LaLiT Golf & Spa Resort, Rajbag≈ 55 km · 1 h 45 min with stopsMeals: Breakfast, Dinner
Check out after a late breakfast and cross the Sal to take the coast road south through Assolna and Betul. Stop at Cabo de Rama, a headland fort with old cannons and a small church, for the view over an empty coast. Continue past Agonda to The LaLiT on Rajbag beach, a long, casuarina-backed strand at the mouth of the Talpona river. Swim and rest before dinner.
Day06
By boat to Butterfly Beach
Overnight: The LaLiT Golf & Spa Resort, Rajbag≈ 10 km round trip · 20 minMeals: Breakfast
At 8 am, a private boat leaves Palolem's crescent bay and runs north along the forested headlands. Dolphins are often seen in the calm morning water. At Butterfly Beach, a small cove reached only by boat or a steep path, you can swim and walk the sand before the shared boats arrive. Return for a late breakfast on Palolem beach, and spend the afternoon at the resort.
Day07
Cotigao forest and Galgibaga
Overnight: The LaLiT Golf & Spa Resort, Rajbag≈ 40 km round trip · 1 h 15 minMeals: Breakfast
Enter the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary at opening time with a naturalist, walking forest trails and climbing a canopy watchtower to look for hornbills, woodpeckers and giant squirrels. Return for a rest through the heat. In the late afternoon, walk Galgibaga, a long, protected turtle beach between two rivers, with the low light coming through the casuarinas, and follow the Talpona river home at sunset.
Day08
Agonda and a farewell dinner
Overnight: The LaLiT Golf & Spa Resort, Rajbag≈ 30 km round trip · 50 minMeals: Breakfast, Dinner
Spend the morning at Agonda, a 3 km beach with a strict no-loud-music rule, swimming near the lifeguard tower and walking to the turtle hatchery at its northern end in season. Lunch on fish caught that morning at a beach restaurant. The afternoon is free. In the evening, a farewell dinner is set on the beach at the resort.
Day09
Depart from Dabolim
≈ 70 km · 1 h 40 minMeals: Breakfast
A last swim, then your driver takes you north through the Canacona hills and Margao to Dabolim Airport, about 1 h 40 min away. For afternoon or evening flights, we can arrange lunch at a Goan restaurant on the way or a late check-out at the resort.
Boats run only from about October to May; they stop in the monsoon.
Turtle nesting and hatching seasons vary; check current status before you travel.
Fly into Dabolim (GOI); Mopa adds more than an hour to each transfer.
Christmas and New Year carry higher rates and minimum stays at both resorts.
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is south Goa quieter than north Goa?
Yes. The south has longer, emptier beaches, fewer shacks and almost no nightlife beyond Palolem. The stretch from Mobor to Galgibaga is the quietest coast in Goa, which is why we built this journey around it.
Why two resorts rather than one?
The Leela Goa puts you close to Chandor, Margao and the Sal river; The LaLiT puts you within ten minutes of Palolem, Agonda, Cotigao and Galgibaga. Splitting the stay avoids long day trips and lets you see both halves of the south.
Is this a good honeymoon itinerary?
Yes. It is slow, private and beautiful, with sunset boats, quiet beaches and one easy outing a day. We can upgrade to lagoon or pool villas at The Leela Goa and arrange a private dinner on the beach.
How much driving is involved?
Very little. The airport transfers are 1 hour and 1 h 40 min, the move between resorts is under 2 hours with a stop at Cabo de Rama, and daily outings are 10 to 45 minutes each way.
Can we see turtles on this journey?
Possibly. Olive ridleys nest on Agonda and Galgibaga from about November to March, and hatchlings are released from about January to April. Visits are at the forest department's discretion; check current status before you travel.
Is Palolem too crowded for a luxury trip?
Palolem is busy in December and January, which is why we stay at The LaLiT on Rajbag, ten minutes away, and visit Palolem early in the morning by boat. Agonda and Galgibaga stay quiet all season.
What is the best time for this journey?
November to March, when the sea is calm and boats run. October and April are possible, warmer and quieter. We do not run this itinerary in the monsoon, when boats stop and the sea is too rough to swim.
Can we add Old Goa to this trip?
Yes. Old Goa is about 1 h 15 min from Mobor. We can add a day there, or extend the start with two nights at Cidade de Goa near Panjim for Fontainhas, Old Goa and Divar.
Are the resorts suitable for families?
Both are. The Leela Goa and The LaLiT have large grounds, pools, long beaches and activities for children in season. The boat trips, forest walks and turtle beaches also work well for families.
