Taj Bekal Resort & Spa

Taj Bekal sits on a large site between a backwater lagoon and Kappil beach in Kasaragod district, about 10 minutes from Bekal Fort. Its architecture borrows the curved roofs of the kettuvallam rice barges, and villas are spread around landscaped grounds and water channels, many with private pools and outdoor showers.
The resort has a spa, a large pool, restaurants serving Malabar and coastal dishes among others, and boating on the lagoon. It is the most comfortable base in the far north of Kerala, and we use it for Bekal Fort, the Valiyaparamba backwaters, the Ananthapura lake temple and Theyyam nights in Kasaragod and Kannur, returning each night to calm and space.
Why we book it
- The leading luxury resort in North Malabar
- Pool villas on a quiet backwater lagoon
- Ten minutes from Bekal Fort and close to Theyyam
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
How far is Taj Bekal from Mangaluru airport?
About 65 km, roughly 1.5 hours by car. Kannur International Airport is about 110 km south, around 2.5 hours. Kasaragod and Kanhangad railway stations are each about 12–15 km away. The drive crosses from Karnataka into Kerala on the coastal highway, which is being widened in places.
Is Taj Bekal on the beach?
The resort sits between a backwater lagoon and Kappil beach, with access to the beach on foot. The sea along this coast has strong currents, so swim only where the resort advises and in calm conditions. Most guests use the pools and the lagoon.
Can we see Theyyam from Taj Bekal?
Yes. Kasaragod's village shrines hold Theyyam through the season from about November to May, and Kannur's are 1.5 to 2 hours south. We arrange a guide and car to take you to the night's performance and back. Check current status before you travel, as dates are set locally.
