Vivanta Guwahati

Vivanta Guwahati is built around landscaped grounds at Khanapara, close to where the Shillong highway leaves the city. That position matters: it lets you start for Shillong without crossing central Guwahati, and it is about 45 minutes to an hour from the airport depending on traffic. Rooms are contemporary and well kept, and the larger categories look over the garden and the Meghalaya foothills.
The hotel is part of the Taj group's Vivanta brand, and service follows IHCL standards. We value it for practical reasons: dependable rooms after a long flight, a pool for warm afternoons from March to October, and a kitchen that can serve Assamese thalis with fish tenga, duck and pitha. From here, Kamakhya temple and the Brahmaputra waterfront are both reachable in a half-day.
Why we book it
- Placed on the Shillong road, avoiding city traffic
- Consistent IHCL service and a pool
- Assamese dishes done well in the restaurant
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
How far is Vivanta Guwahati from the airport?
About 25 km, which takes 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic through the city. The hotel is on the southern edge of Guwahati at Khanapara, close to the Shillong highway, so the onward drive to Shillong is around 2.5 hours. We time arrivals to avoid the evening rush on GS Road where we can.
Is Vivanta Guwahati good for one night before Shillong?
Yes. Its position on the Shillong road makes it the most convenient luxury hotel for an overnight stop. If your flight lands before noon, we usually drive straight to Shillong instead and keep Vivanta for the last night, when an early departure from Guwahati makes a city base more practical.
Can I visit Kamakhya Temple from Vivanta Guwahati?
Yes. Kamakhya is on Nilachal Hill, about 15 km from the hotel, or 40 minutes by car. Go early in the morning when the general queue is shorter, or book special darshan in advance. The temple closes for several days during Ambubachi Mela in June, so check current status before you travel.
