Cidade de Goa – IHCL SeleQtions

A beach resort on Vainguinim cove near Dona Paula, designed by the architect Charles Correa as a stylised Goan village of lanes, courtyards and painted walls. It is the closest resort to Panjim, about 15 minutes from Fontainhas, and our base for heritage-led trips.

Cidade de Goa climbs a hillside above a small sheltered cove at Vainguinim, between Panjim and Dona Paula. Charles Correa designed it to read like a Portuguese-era hill town, with stepped lanes, plazas, murals and trompe l'oeil façades, and the effect still works decades later. Rooms face the sea or the gardens, and the cove beach is private in practice.

For Old Goa, Fontainhas, Divar and the Chorao bird sanctuary, nothing else of this standard is as close: Fontainhas is about 15 minutes, Old Goa 25 and the Ribandar ferry 20. Dabolim Airport is 30 minutes across the Zuari. We use it for heritage, festival and birding journeys.

Why we book it

  1. About 15 minutes from Fontainhas and 25 from Old Goa
  2. A Charles Correa design inspired by a Goan hill town
  3. Its own sheltered cove at Vainguinim

Questions travellers ask

Good to know

Is Cidade de Goa on a good beach?

It sits on Vainguinim, a small sheltered cove between Panjim and Dona Paula. The beach is quiet and mostly used by hotel guests, though it is smaller than the long beaches of south Goa. It is ideal for an evening swim after a day of sightseeing in the season.

How far is Cidade de Goa from Panjim and Old Goa?

Fontainhas in Panjim is about 7 km, roughly 15 minutes by car, and Old Goa about 15 km, 25 minutes. The Ribandar ferry to Chorao is about 20 minutes. It is the most convenient luxury base for heritage sightseeing.

Who designed Cidade de Goa?

The resort was designed by Charles Correa, one of India's most respected architects, who was of Goan descent. He laid it out as a stylised Goan village, with stepped lanes, courtyards and painted façades that borrow from Portuguese-era Panjim.
