Jaipur and Samode in five nights

A short Rajasthan break of five nights: three at Rambagh Palace for Amber Fort, the City Palace, the bazaars and Bagru's printers, then two quiet nights at Samode Palace in the hills. Ideal from Delhi or as a first taste of Rajasthan.

For travellers with a week in India, or as a first visit to Rajasthan, this short journey gives you Jaipur properly and then lets you slow down. Three nights at Rambagh Palace cover the forts, palaces and markets without hurry, with a morning among the block printers of Bagru.

Then an hour's drive takes you to Samode Palace, where painted halls and terraces over the village make a calm end. Delhi is five hours by road or an hour by air, so it fits easily before or after other plans.

Questions travellers ask

Good to know

Is five nights enough for Jaipur and Samode

Yes, for a calm visit. Three nights in Jaipur covers the main sights without rushing, and two at Samode give real rest. It is a full short break on its own. Amber Fort, the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the bazaars fill two days, Bagru's printers break the drive north, and Samode Palace is only about an hour from Jaipur.

Can I start from Delhi

Yes. Take the fast train from Delhi to Jaipur in about 4.5 hours, or drive in about 5 hours. At the end, Samode to Delhi is about 5 hours by road. Your driver meets you at Jaipur station or the airport, and an hour's flight from Delhi is another option. Train and flight times change, so check current status before you travel.

Why stay two nights at Samode

One night is enough to see the palace; two let you rest, walk the village, climb the fort and have lunch at Samode Bagh. It turns a sightseeing trip into a holiday. The first afternoon brings the Durbar Hall and Sheesh Mahal with the palace team, and the second day is kept slow by the pool. Lunch at Samode Bagh depends on bookings; check current status before you travel.

Can I add Ranthambore

Yes. Add two or three nights in Ranthambore after Jaipur, then return north to Samode. Ranthambore is 3.5 hours from Jaipur. Safaris run with a naturalist in open vehicles at dawn and in the afternoon, subject to permits. The main zones close from 1 July to 30 September, so add it between October and June; check current status before you travel.

Is this journey suitable for older travellers

Yes. The pace is gentle and the hotels comfortable. Amber Fort involves ramps and steps; we can arrange a jeep to the upper gate and plan shorter walks. Drives are short, the longest about 2.5 hours via Bagru, and afternoons are kept free for rest. Tell us about mobility when booking, and we will brief your guide and choose rooms with fewer stairs where possible.

When is the best time for this journey

October to March. The monsoon months of July to September are also pleasant at Samode, with green hills and lower rates. Winter days in Jaipur are usually in the 20s °C, good for Amber Fort at opening and the bazaars on foot. From April to June the heat is hard, and Rambagh books out months ahead in peak season, so plan early.

Can I stay at The Oberoi Rajvilas instead

Yes. Rajvilas is quieter and more private than Rambagh, about 25 minutes from the old city. Both work well for this journey. Rajvilas has villas and tents set in gardens, while Rambagh is the former royal residence, closer to the centre. The rest of the plan stays the same, including Bagru and the two nights at Samode Palace.

What can I buy in Jaipur

Hand block-printed textiles, quilts, blue pottery, silver, gems with certificates, lac bangles and mojari slippers. Your guide will take you to good makers, not commission shops. In Bagru you meet a Chhipa family who print with wooden blocks and natural dyes, and can buy from them directly. Established makers can ship larger pieces home, and we confirm costs before you buy.

Is the price per person

Yes, per person, twin sharing, from the figure shown, varying with dates and rooms. Single travellers pay a supplement. Room categories at Rambagh Palace and Samode Palace change the price, and it rises over Christmas, New Year and Diwali. Flights or trains to Jaipur are not included. We confirm a firm quote once your dates are fixed.
