Serendipity Arts Festival
Mid-December in recent editions, about eight days

The festival began in 2016 and has been held in Panjim in December in most years since, spread across heritage buildings, warehouses, gardens and the riverfront along the Mandovi. Programmes are put together by guest curators across visual arts, music, theatre, dance, photography, craft and culinary arts, with Indian and South Asian artists at the centre.
For a visitor, it turns Panjim into a walkable gallery for about a week. Old Portuguese-era buildings such as the Old Goa Medical College and the Adil Shah Palace, as well as open grounds by the river, have hosted shows in past editions. Evenings bring free concerts by the water.
We pair the festival with a stay at Cidade de Goa or a north Goa hotel, a guide who can steer you to the strongest shows each day, and lunch in Fontainhas between venues. Because the festival's format has changed in some years, we confirm dates and venues with the organisers before we plan.
How to do it well
- Most events are free but some performances need advance registration online.
- Venues are spread along the Mandovi; a car and driver save long walks in the heat.
- Dates and venues are confirmed only a few months ahead; check current status before you travel.
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
When is the Serendipity Arts Festival held?
Recent editions have taken place in Panjim in mid-December over about eight days. Dates and the programme are announced a few months in advance and have changed from year to year, so check current status before you travel and book Panjim rooms early once dates are out.
Is the Serendipity Arts Festival free?
Most exhibitions and many performances have been free to the public, though some concerts and workshops need registration in advance through the festival's website or app. Seats for popular performances fill quickly, so register as soon as the programme is published.
Where are the festival venues in Panjim?
Venues have been spread along the Mandovi riverfront and in heritage buildings across central Panjim, including the Adil Shah Palace and the Old Goa Medical College building, plus open grounds near the river. Exact venues change each year, so we plan routes once the map is released.
How many days should I spend at the festival?
Two or three days are enough to see the main exhibitions and a couple of evening performances without rushing. We combine that with a Fontainhas walk and Old Goa, then a few days at a beach resort to finish the trip.
