Ladakh Sarai

Ladakh Sarai is a small, peaceful retreat in Saboo village, a short drive from Leh, with cottages and yurts set among willows and poplars. A quiet, green alternative to staying in town, especially for the acclimatisation days.

Saboo is a farming village in a side valley above the Indus, a short drive east of Leh. Ladakh Sarai sits among willow and poplar trees with a stream nearby, and its accommodation is a mix of cottages and yurts, furnished simply but comfortably. The setting is calm and green, with mountain views and the sound of water. It feels far from town. Mornings are peaceful. Birds sing in the trees.

We suggest Ladakh Sarai for guests who want quiet over convenience: couples, writers, and travellers on longer trips who would rather walk in village fields than browse the bazaar. Leh's restaurants and sights are close enough by car. The retreat is seasonal, so check current status before you travel. It works best for two or three nights, ideally at the start of a trip, when rest matters most. Book ahead.

Why we book it

  1. Quiet village setting among trees, close to Leh
  2. Cottages and yurts with mountain views
  3. Good for restful acclimatisation days

Questions travellers ask

Good to know

Where is Ladakh Sarai?

Ladakh Sarai is in Saboo, a village in a side valley a short drive from Leh, usually 20–30 minutes from the centre. It is close enough for easy trips into town and to the airport, but far enough to feel rural and quiet.

Is Ladakh Sarai comfortable in cold weather?

The retreat operates mainly in the warmer months. Nights in Saboo can be cold in May, September and October, and the rooms and yurts have heating and extra bedding. Check current status for opening months before you travel. We add extra blankets.

Is Ladakh Sarai good for families?

It suits calm families who enjoy a rural setting, with space for children to walk in the village. Families who want a full-service hotel with more dining choice may prefer The Grand Dragon in Leh. Older children enjoy the yurts.
