Ways to make the journey
1 h
The direct route crosses the Zuari on the new bridge at Agassaim and follows the NH66 past Verna to Margao, then west to Benaulim. Alternatively, we take the inland roads through Loutolim and Rachol, adding about an hour with stops for a mansion visit and the seminary. Traffic in Margao is the main delay.

Dabolim Airport (GOI) lies between Panjim and the south coast. Arriving guests can go straight south to Benaulim in about 45 minutes, or north to Panjim in 40, and see the other half of Goa at the end of the trip.

Questions travellers ask
Good to know
How far is south Goa from Panjim?
Benaulim is about 42 km from Panjim, roughly 1 hour by car, and Cavelossim about 1 h 15 min. Palolem, at the southern end, is about 75 km and 1 h 45 min. The new Zuari bridge has shortened the drive.
Should I stay in north or south Goa?
For quiet beaches and large resorts, stay in the south; for villas, restaurants and markets, the north. Many of our journeys spend two nights near Panjim for the heritage sights and the rest on the south coast.
Can I visit Old Goa from south Goa?
Yes. Old Goa is about 40 km from Benaulim, roughly an hour by car. A half-day visit is easy, though combining Old Goa, Fontainhas and Divar works better as a full day.
Is there a train from Panjim to Margao?
Panjim has no station of its own. Trains run from Karmali, near Old Goa, and Thivim to Madgaon on the Konkan Railway. For most travellers the car is quicker and more convenient.
