Ways to make the journey
5 h
The road is good as far as Lakhimpur Kheri and slower on the last stretch through sugarcane country to Palia and the park. Leave Lucknow at 8 am, stop for tea on the way and reach Dudhwa by about 1 pm. We use well-maintained vehicles with experienced drivers who know the route.
7–9 h
Slow trains reach Palia and Dudhwa stations on a branch line, but services are infrequent and slow. A car is far more practical. Check current status before you travel if you prefer rail.

Questions travellers ask
Good to know
How far is Dudhwa from Lucknow?
About 235 km, or 5 hours by car, via Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri and Palia Kalan. It is the most practical way to reach the park, as trains are slow and there is no nearby airport with regular flights. We add a night in Lucknow at each end.
What is the road like from Lucknow to Dudhwa?
Good highway as far as Lakhimpur Kheri, then a narrower road through villages and sugarcane fields to Palia and the park, with slower traffic and tractors in the harvest season. Driving after dark is best avoided, so we time departures to arrive in daylight.
Can I fly closer to Dudhwa?
Lucknow is the practical airport. Smaller airports in the region have limited or irregular flights. Check current status before you travel. For most travellers, flying to Lucknow and driving 5 hours is the most reliable route. We time the drive to arrive in daylight.
Is there anything to see on the way to Dudhwa?
The Frog Temple at Oel, near Lakhimpur Kheri, is an unusual Shiva temple built on a carved stone frog in the 19th century, worth a short stop. Otherwise the drive passes through rural Uttar Pradesh, with sugarcane fields, villages and markets.
