Ways to make the journey

Private car
2–2.5 h

The quickest route crosses to the mainland and runs north on the national highway past Kochi airport, Angamaly and Chalakudy to Thrissur. Alternatively, the coastal road via North Paravur and Kodungallur passes the Muziris heritage sites, with the Paravur synagogue and the Cheraman mosque, adding a few hours if you stop. Athirappilly Falls is a detour of about 1.5 hours from Chalakudy.

Train
1–1.25 h

Fast trains, including the Vande Bharat Express on the main line, run from Ernakulam to Thrissur in about an hour. This avoids highway traffic. We meet you at Thrissur station and send luggage ahead by car if needed.

Questions travellers ask

Good to know

How far is Thrissur from Kochi?

About 80 km from Ernakulam and 90 km from Fort Kochi, around 2 to 2.5 hours by car. Cochin International Airport is about 55 km, 1.5 hours, from Thrissur. Fast trains from Ernakulam take about an hour. Traffic on the highway is heaviest at rush hour.

Can we see Athirappilly on the way to Thrissur?

Yes. From Chalakudy on the highway, Athirappilly Falls is about 30 km east, roughly 45 minutes each way. With time at the falls, the detour adds about three hours. Morning is best, and the falls are fullest from August to December.

Is Thrissur a day trip from Kochi?

Yes. A day trip covers the Vadakkunnathan temple area and either Kerala Kalamandalam or the Muziris heritage sites. Kalamandalam classes start early, so for that we suggest a night in Thrissur. Allow about 2 to 2.5 hours each way by car from Fort Kochi, or take the train from Ernakulam.

Is the train a good option to Thrissur?

Yes. The line between Ernakulam and Thrissur has frequent, fast services, including the Vande Bharat Express, taking about an hour. It is quicker than the road at rush hour. Book air-conditioned chair or first class in advance. Check current status before you travel for timings.
