Ways to make the journey

Flight
1 h

Direct flights connect Jaipur International (JAI) with Udaipur's Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR) in about an hour, usually with one or two departures a day. With transfers and check-in, allow about four hours door to door. This is our usual choice when time is short, and it saves most of a day on the road. Schedules change by season, so check current status before you travel.

Private car
6.5 h

The drive follows the national highway south-west via Kishangarh, Ajmer and Bhilwara or Rajsamand, mostly on good four-lane road. With a lunch stop, plan on 7–8 hours. We use the drive for guests who want to see Pushkar, Ajmer or Chittorgarh on the way, or split it with a night at Deogarh Mahal, about 285 km from Jaipur.

Train
6–8 h

Several trains link Jaipur and Udaipur City, including day services of around 6–7 hours and slower overnight trains. Executive or first-class seats are comfortable but not luxurious. Rail suits guests who enjoy trains and want to avoid both the drive and the airport. Check current timetables before you travel.

Worth a stop

  1. Pushkar (detour of 15 km from Ajmer)
  2. Ajmer Sharif dargah
  3. Deogarh Mahal
  4. Chittorgarh Fort (detour)
If you drive, leave Jaipur by 8 am and stop in Pushkar or Deogarh rather than doing the whole road in one go.

Questions travellers ask

Good to know

Should I fly or drive from Jaipur to Udaipur

Fly if time is short: the flight takes about an hour and saves most of a day. Drive if you want to see Pushkar, Ajmer or Chittorgarh on the way, or break the journey with a night at Deogarh Mahal. A non-stop drive of 6.5–7 hours is tiring and not something we recommend.

How long is the drive from Jaipur to Udaipur

About 395 km, 6.5 hours without stops, usually 7–8 hours with lunch and rest stops. The road is good four-lane highway for most of the way. We avoid driving after dark. The route runs via Kishangarh, Ajmer and Bhilwara or Rajsamand. We leave Jaipur by 8 am, and if you would rather not do it in one go, we split the road with a night at Pushkar or Deogarh Mahal.

Is there a direct flight from Jaipur to Udaipur

Yes, direct flights have operated daily, taking about an hour. We book the flight that best fits your hotel check-out and check-in. The flight runs from Jaipur International (JAI) to Udaipur's Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR). With transfers and check-in, allow about four hours door to door, which still saves most of a day against the road. Frequency and timings change by season, so check current status before you travel.

What is the best place to stop between Jaipur and Udaipur

Pushkar, for the holy lake and temples, about 2.5 hours from Jaipur. Deogarh Mahal, a palace hotel about 5 hours from Jaipur, is the best place to stay a night and split the drive in two. Pushkar is a 15 km detour from Ajmer and suits a lunch stop by the ghats. From Deogarh, Udaipur is about 2.5 hours the next morning. Chittorgarh Fort is a longer detour for those keen on history.
