The Kumbhalgarh sanctuary covers the forested slopes of the Aravalli around the fort, with dry deciduous trees, streams and rocky ridges. It is home to leopards, sloth bears, wolves, jungle cats, four-horned antelope and many birds, though larger animals are shy and rarely seen on foot.

The trek usually starts near the fort and descends through the forest, passing small villages and shepherd camps, to reach Ranakpur in about five to six hours, depending on the route and pace. You walk with a local guide, and a forest guard where required. A packed lunch is carried, and the car meets you at Ranakpur.

This walk requires forest department permission, which we arrange, and the route can change with conditions. It is for walkers comfortable with uneven, rocky paths and some steep descents. We go only in the cooler months, starting early. Check current status before you travel.
