Marwar Festival
October, two days around Sharad Purnima (lunar calendar)

The festival was first known as the Maand Festival, after the style of song once performed for Rajput courts. Rajasthan Tourism runs it over two days around Sharad Purnima, with folk musicians, dancers and processions in Jodhpur and events at nearby sites. It is smaller and more local than Pushkar or Jaisalmer, which is part of its appeal.
October in Jodhpur also brings the Rajasthan International Folk Festival, known as Jodhpur RIFF, held at Mehrangarh Fort around the same full moon, with musicians from Rajasthan and abroad performing on the ramparts. The two are separate, and both have changed dates and formats over the years, so check current status before you travel.
We pair the festival with two nights at Umaid Bhawan Palace or RAAS, a morning at Mehrangarh and an excursion to the Bishnoi villages. October days reach 33–35 °C, so we plan outdoor sightseeing for early mornings and late afternoons and leave the evenings for music.
How to do it well
- Combine with Jodhpur RIFF at Mehrangarh if the dates align
- Book Jodhpur rooms three months ahead for festival dates
- Plan sightseeing for early morning; October afternoons are still hot
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
When is the Marwar Festival
It runs for two days around Sharad Purnima, the full moon of the Hindu month of Ashwin, which usually falls in October. Rajasthan Tourism confirms the dates each year, sometimes only a few months ahead, and the programme can change between editions. We plan Jodhpur nights around the confirmed dates; check current status before you travel.
What is the difference between Marwar Festival and Jodhpur RIFF
The Marwar Festival is a state-run celebration of Marwari folk music and dance. Jodhpur RIFF is a separate, ticketed music festival at Mehrangarh Fort with Rajasthani and international musicians, usually held around the same October full moon. Both are worth attending; check current dates for each.
Is October a good time to visit Jodhpur
Yes. The monsoon has ended, skies are clear and the crowds of November to January have not yet arrived. Days are warm at 33–35 °C and evenings pleasant. Plan the fort and old city early, and rest in the afternoons.
Where should I stay for the Marwar Festival
Umaid Bhawan Palace for a royal setting with gardens and views to the fort, or RAAS for a boutique stay in the old city directly below Mehrangarh. Both are well placed for festival events and for Jodhpur RIFF at the fort. Book about three months ahead for festival dates.
